Austin LGBTQ Wedding Photographer

Since June is pride month, why not celebrate ‘love is love’ with some of my favorite same sex photography sessions?

While this post does indeed feature same-sex couples, that alone does not define them. Each one is as unique as the next, and it has been a pleasure to capture these moments for them.  In the same way, I cannot be defined as an LGBTQ wedding photographer, or an Austin wedding photographer, or a traditional wedding photographer – the title doesn’t matter as much as my mission. I’m here to photographer real love in all forms. I am a wedding photographer, and that encompasses a full spectrum of people, couples, and venues.

That’s what I love most about it! My career hardly feels like a job, and it certainly never gets boring. Photographing couples from all walks of life keeps my heart strong and confident during these crazy days. No matter how gloomy the news and media may look, these families bring me hope. They have incredible stories to tell, and I’m here to help them tell it visually and share it with you.

Unfortunately, same-sex marriage in Texas was a long time coming. It wasn’t until 2015 after a nation-wide Supreme Court ruling that it finally became legalized. It’s always been my goal to provide a safe, trusting environment for my couples and their families. I want them to know that I’m here for them, I stand with them, and I’m ready to photograph their story and everything that makes it so unique – no matter what. This kind of love is what makes us human, and that’s a reason to celebrate!

So, without further ado, here are a few of my all-time favorite proposals, engagements, and weddings (that just so happen to feature some beautiful same-sex couples). Cheers to love and happiness, y’all!

Are you ready for this? I already knew the plan, and I was still just as giddy when Brad popped the big question. I felt like jumping up and down right alongside them…but I composed myself and continued to take these sweet photos in secret. The plan was relatively simple, but the location and intimate moments that followed were oh, so romantic! The very best kind of proposal. The proposal happened in the heart of downtown Austin on a pedestrian bridge overlooking the Colorado River. Brad held a single white rose as his best friend, the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with, walked up to greet him. When Brad started to get down on one knee, the rest was history. Of course, Garrett said yes! Cue the happy tears!

After letting them have their moment, I came out from hiding to continue their couple’s shots. We blissfully walked around and found some greenery for them sneak behind and savor the moment privately together. They showed off the ring to some of their closest friends and family, then we ended with a great shot beneath a huge Texas sunset. Pure perfection!

Which brings us to these lovely ladies. We had a ton of fun with their vintage-themed engagement session at Roadhouse Relics in Austin, Texas. This location provided a laid-back atmosphere for Diana and Erin to just walk around and spend an afternoon together while I took a few photos. Our goal was to find a spot that really fit their style and personality as opposed to a stiff, formal engagement shoot. I think we hit the nail on the head. I’m in love with how their photos turned out, and they were both naturals in front of the camera. They did a great job of focusing on each other more than me, which is just how I like it so I can capture the most authentic photos possible. Be sure to check out their downtown wedding ceremony at Butler Park below!

One of the best parts about finding a photographer that you trust is knowing that you’ll receive photos that document the entire journey from proposal to wedding – and beyond! (Did I mention I love photographing families, too?) When you hire a professional photographer, who fits in like family, you can build a cohesive collection of real-life photos. It doesn’t have to be a one and done kind of thing. In fact, I always hope couples I work with stay in touch. There’s nothing better than hearing about how their adventure unfolds after “I do.”

So, I was ecstatic to photograph Erin and Diana’s engagement session and their wedding. They went from hanging out by old vintage cars to that magical first kiss in a white wedding dress and blue suit. They looked so amazing – and more importantly so happy – in both.

I also wanted to share a few other weddings as well to show how we incorporate the distinct character, style, and personality of each couple. Andy and Dennis had the party of a lifetime – on their FORTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY, no less. The story doesn’t get any sweeter, so click that link above and read all about these special grooms!

On the other hand, Scott and Matt went rustic chic with their Star Hill Ranch wedding.

And we loved Cody and Brandon’s bright, al fresco Dripping Springs wedding at Prospect House. They were all a blast, and those smiles say it all.

Little White Chapel Weddings

With the pandemic, it’s been tough for couples to tie the knot. So, Cory Ryan Photography joined forces with Bird Dog Wedding, Contigo Catering, Mercury Hall, Elvis (Michael McMullen), Hereafter Films, Dart Collective, Table Manners, Remi + Gold, Vogue Vignette and the rest of an awesome wedding vendor crew to bring Vegas to Austin! Couples could book one of four wedding dates to exchange vows at the Little White Chapel, and it was a huge hit.
