Winter Wedding at Barr Mansion

These two really are the sweetest couple ever, and I pretty much fell in love with them instantly! They just have a special way of looking at each other that lights up a room. So when these two combined creative forces for their winter wedding at Barr Mansion, watch out! (Off topic side note: Only in Austin can you have your wedding outdoors in 70 degree weather!!!) Megan used to work as a graphic designer, so they decided to fearlessly take on all the stationary design themselves. Megan made the invitations herself using a die-cut machine (which in Megan’s words “was NOT a fun week…hahaha…but they turned out great!”). The couple personalized their special day by involving many friends and loved ones as well. The couple’s friend Sara played cello with Barton Strings  during the ceremony. Brad and the groomsmen walked down the aisle to their original rendition of “Paranoid Android” by Radiohead, and Megan’s processional was “Joga” by Bjork. YES! Tim, a close friend of the couple and member of Oh No Oh My, performed the ceremony. And Megan’s adorable friend Rachel Andre – whose wedding I shot years ago in Washington DC – made the mouth watering assortment of wedding cakes. And we are talking crazy-yummy-flavors like “chocolate cake with apricot-grappa syrup and ricotta butter cream”! I try not to eat too much wedding cake (occupational hazard), but I couldn’t help myself that night!

The couple was announced into the reception to the Pee Wee’s Big Adventure soundtrack (hence the lovely Pee Wee plate ring shot!)., and named their wedding party’s table with the same awesome name.  With tears in his eyes, Megan’s father toasted to her that she was the most thoughtful girl in the world. I have to agree for two reasons. 1) It was Rick’s birthday, the event manager at Barr Mansion, and they had the band and guest all sing him happy birthday while presenting him with a glass of wine and cake. SO SWEET! and 2) The couple made a memory tree for all of their family members that had passed away. Folks went up to look at the photos hanging from the branches all night. BUT the biggest highlight of the reception was when Megan’s grandfather Romeo (best name ever!) got on stage with the wedding band to play drums with them for one song. Romeo was awesome and didn’t miss a beat, and there was more than one teary eye at that special moment. The couple exited in style with sparklers and red Rolls Royce. Congratulations to the newlyweds on this beautiful winter wedding at Barr Mansion!

Brad and I are both fairly uncomfortable being in front of the camera and not only did you take fantastic photos- you made the experience fun and enjoyable for us both (no small feat!) Thank you so much for your beautiful description of our wedding day (are you sure you’re a photographer, and not a writer? you’re pretty amazing at both!)
