First of all, huge thanks to Victoria & Nate for allowing me the honor of photographing your Vintage Villas wedding! This gorgeous couple met on the dating app Bumble, so the groom threw a nod to the app via his bumble bee tie and the groomsmen bee socks. I love how many of today’s couples are meeting online! Once Victoria put on her Stone Cold Fox wedding dress, there was no doubt that she was exactly that!
On big occasions such as weddings, it’s only natural to want to be surrounded by a circle of your closest family members. Unfortunately Nate’s father passed, and had left a hole in his heart on big days such as this. Knowing this, Victoria tirelessly searched for an old copy of his dad’s signature from old receipts. Once she found it, she had his signature turned into a custom pin, which she then gifted Nate on the wedding day. Nate was clearly beside himself and couldn’t help but cry. (Yes, I cried too, but I kept it together enough so that I could keep my viewfinder focused!) The signature pen was truly one of the most thoughtful gifts that I’ve seen given on a wedding day.
Nate’s sister acted as officiant with a hilarious “Officiating for Dummies” binder in hand, with the gorgeous Lake Travis views of Vintage Villas in the background. The couple even changed their wedding date so that she could officiate, as she found out she was pregnant and expecting a baby right before the prior date. So the adorable baby came to the wedding at just a few months old!
Instead of the typical three layer wedding cake, the couple choose an alternative dessert – a yummy bundt cake topped with “Mr <3 Mrs”, plus a table full of different flavored mini bundts. The DJ kept this crazy crowd on the dance floor all night long – they even extended the night past the original end time to have more time to dance! Check out the awesome photo of the groom doing the worm!!!
A sparkler exit acted as the wedding finale, as the couple strutted from their reception into married life! Check out this feature on Austin Wedding Day for more photos!
Jenny & Mike envisioned throwing a swanky party with delicious food bites for their guests at the Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center! Caplan Miller Events helped plan and coordinate the swanky decor (hello amazing gold chair!) & wedding day. We hopped on a golf cart with the couple after their first look and wandered the property to find some amazing and unique portrait locations. Mike most definitely said “HOLY SHIT” when he saw Jenny for the first time… I mean, how could you not? She rocked the hollywood glam like no bride I’ve seen before, thanks to Waterstone Salon and Nisa Nicole Makeup. Instead of a formal ceremony time, the couple gathered in front of a gold and floral backdrop after the bar opened, and walked to the middle of the crowd, where officiant Spike Gillespie was waiting to perform the wedding. The guests gathered around standing and sitting at dinner tables. After the ceremony, amazing close-up magician Mio, began captivating small groups at a time. Word of Mouth opened the tables of delicious bites, both savory & sweet, topped by magnificent large floral arrangements by Botanical No. 9. After the endearing toasts by family and close friends, DJ Rich got out the vinyl and took the music from mellow to dance party! The very last photo is the plaque from Jenny’s mom’s memorial bench, located at the Wildflower Center as well. It’s one of the reasons this location was so special to Jenny, and one more reason why they will never forget this perfect day in this magical place! Huge congrats Jenny & Mike!

As much as I love the huge wedding celebrations, there is something admittedly very special about the small intimate weddings as well. Catherine and Nick had a family only wedding ceremony in the small side chapel of St. John’s United Methodist Church, followed by a group dinner at the incredible Austin restaurant Uchiko. Catherine & Nick’s day was full of surprises and special touches, beginning with the family bible that Catherine walked down the aisle with. Inside the bible are listed the names of all the family members before her who have also carried it, dating back to her great grandmother’s wedding in 1910. Also tucked inside the bible was a patch of Nick’s mom’s dress. Keeping it a family affair, one of Catherine’s adorable nephews acted as ring bearer as well. After the sweet ceremony and vows, Catherine surprised Nick with an emotional serenade of a song written for him on piano (did you know this beauty was also a composer and piano teacher?!) Catherine choked up a little bit near the end of the song, Nick was crying, as well as most of the family! What a special moment… Afterwards we took family photos and couple’s photos by the church, then went over to Hotel Ella where the couple was staying overnight for some gorgeous veranda photos, then over to Uchiko for toasts and dinner. The vintage topper you see on the cake is also a family heirloom – so many special touches that will make this wedding day so forever memorable! Congrats Catherine & Nick!
Tovah & Greg’s Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center wedding was full of personality, whimsical touches, and personalization galore! Coordination by In Her Shoes allowed this relaxed couple to be stress-free during their first look and portraits around the beautiful grounds of the Wildflower Center. Tovah’s BHLDN dress is absolutely one of my favorites from this fall! After photos were done, the whole family gathered together for the Ketubah signing in the library, before moving outdoors for a sunset wedding ceremony. Both the bride and groom were accompanied by both of their parents as they walked down the aisle, which I found very special. The bride’s step mother also made a very special ring bearer pillow for Tovah, made with the lace from her mother’s wedding dress. What a wonderful keepsake! Ilios hung romantic string lights around the chuppah and ceremony area to give off a nice romantic glow at dusk. And no wedding is complete until the couple high-fives, am I right?!? Petals Ink wowed everyone with their colorful, creative statement blooms. In lieu of a typical wedding cake, Tovah & Greg opted for a delicious candy bar and assorted mini-dessert bar by Sweet Treets Bakery… YUM! After dinner & dessert, DJ Byrne Rock got the dance floor pumping with the horah dance. Tovah & Greg were lifted into the air on chairs as all the guests danced around them in circles! The dancing went on late into the evening, and a wonderful wedding was had by all!

When we get the opportunity to team up with 36th Street Events for a magical night time winter wedding at one of our favorite modern wedding venues, we get giddy with excitement! Nicole & Jim tied the knot at dusk outdoors at Prospect House with the rain sprinkling down and the heaters blasting away for guests to stay cozy. Ilios‘ enchanting lighting design allowed the couple to exchange vows after dark with a breathtaking dusk view behind them. Tall cylindrical vases filled with romantic candles also lined the steps leading up to the altar. The cocktail hour moved inside with acoustic tunes from The Hard Truth, and beer being circulated by beer burros, while the couple had a private moment alone. The long reception tables were filled with gorgeous white and red blooms, and guests enjoyed a delicious authentic Texas BBQ buffet from The Salt Lick (and let’s not fail to mention their yummy cobbler dessert, too!). The incredible wedding band London Calling got everyone in full swing on the dance floor, and even got Nicole & Jim up on stage for a final song before their bubble exit! Big congrats to the newlyweds, and thank you for having us there to document your gorgeous Prospect House wedding!
